The Launceston Marathon is disposible cup free! Waste generated from events like ours can be quite significant, and we want reduce it as much as possible - especially hard to recycle plastics. After successfully ditching single-use cups last year, we'll be doing the same in 2019. Each runner will receive a lightweight, folding cup as part of their race entry. These cups weigh almost nothing and are very easy to carry on you when running. They've proven highly successful in past trail runs and ultras, and it was great to hear the positive feedback we got at the 2018 event. Sometimes it's the little things that can make a huge difference.
There are 2 aid stations on course, which you will pass twice each. The first one is at approximately 2.5km and 4.3km, the second one at approximately 8km and 9.8km. Both aid stations will carry water and electrolytes (not provided for the quarter marathon) and will be accessible from both sides. Ensure you drink enough water/electrolytes to avoid dehydration.
We have numerous marshals on course, many of whom have first aid training. Please heed any instructions given to you by our marshals, they are there for your safety. Remember to keep left at all times, unless advised otherwise by our marshals or in the center out and back section of Heritage Forest, and be mindful of other path users. Launceston Marathon does not have exclusive use of the paths.
SafeTas will be stationed at the start/finish area and will be in regular contact with all marshals on course. If you sustain an injury preventing you to continue let the nearest marshal know. If you feel distressed, disorientated, dizzy, or excessively tired, SLOW down or rest for a while. If you do not improve WITHDRAW and make the nearest marshal aware of your condition
The Launceston Marathon course has been designed with spectators in mind. There will be numerous opportunity for your family and friends to see you and provide encouragement while you are competing. All spectators need to remain off the event course and heed any instructions given by race personnel.
Toilets will be available within University of Tasmania Stadium, behind gate 10 and at the HooHoo Hut picnic area (approx. 6km mark).
Finisher medals will be given to each competitor at the completion of their event. Please ensure you run down the correct finish lane to ensure you are given the correct medal. There will be marshals on course to assist you if necessary.
There is a bag drop located in the start/finish precinct. Your bib has a tear off section, please attach this to your bag before handing it to the bag drop assistants. All donations will be given to the SES. Bag drop closes 15 mins prior to the start of your event (Marathon – 7:45 AM, Half marathon – 9:25 AM, Quarter marathon 7:55 AM, 100KM 5:45AM, 5KM 10:45AM). Launceston Marathon hold no responsibility for your personal belongings.
Health and Safety
All paths utilized are shared, Launceston Marathon does not have exclusive use of these paths. Please run responsibly and keep your eyes on the path and intended route.
We recommend you leave adequate space between yourselves and other runners to reduce the risk of accidental collision or injury, and only overtake other runners if there is ample room to do so.
All participants will assemble in the start area on foot, and must obey the run director, marshals and Launceston Marathon volunteers at all times.
Pets, skateboards and roller-skate/blades are strictly forbidden.
To ensure your safety and that of fellow participants, the use of headphones or any musical device is strongly discouraged.
